Value City (SP) Pte Ltd opened its 15th outlet yesterday. The new addition is located at the former Regal Cinema building in Suva, along Scott Street. The opening coincided with Value City’s 30th anniversary. Company managing director Vera Chute said Value City, a pre-loved clothing store chain, employed 190 staff.
Mindset
She said the company’s greatest challenge involved the mindset and stigma associated with buying second hand or shopping in a thrift store. Value City continued to advocate and educate customers on the importance of recycling, reusing and reducing.
Ms Chute said they were planning to open a shop in Korovou, Tailevu, once they found a space. Australian high commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes, said the business model of Value City impressed him.
Buying from charities
“You purchased second-hand clothes from Australia, often from charities, which benefits underprivileged people in Australia,” Mr Feakes said. Mr Feakes said the chain was a wonderful example of the business links that tie Australia and Fiji together- a key pillar of Vuvale Partnership.
